Anyone Get The Hpv Vaccine Shots Yet That Can Tell Me More?

by Rachel on February 11, 2010

I’ve heard it is 3 shots for about 400 dollars. How many days apart do you get them? In addition, is it fine to get the shots even when I’m sexually active? I’ve never encountered STDs.

I do know that it is a series of 3 shots, the price depends on where you get them. You most deffinatly should get them if you are sexually active. I know that they suggest girls from the age of 10 get them I am not sure if there is an age limit. It is a sexually transmitted disease and although guys can’t get it they are carriers of it.

I think you get them every couple of months or something like that.

Are you trying to prevent HPV or do you have them?

The cost of the vaccine to you will depend on your insurance company, who you or your parents should call to find out about coverage. Ideally, you want to get the HPV vaccine BEFORE you are sexually active, because the vaccine doesn’t make the infection go away if you have already been infected. (Infection is possible even if you practice safe sex and use a condom.)
Even if you have had sex, you should get the vaccine because you can get protection from the strains or varieties of the virus that you haven’t been exposed to yet. The vaccine protects against the strains of the HPV virus that are responsible for 70% of cervical cancers and 90% of genital warts.
Please remember when you get this vaccine that it is really important for you to get annual pap tests if you are sexually active. The vaccine is NOT intended to replace the need for these exams. Also remember that the vaccine does NOT protect you against any other STDs such as HIV, chlamydia, gonnorhea, etc.– so please do NOT think of it as an excuse to stop practicing safe sex.
Finally, follow the news on this vaccine. While they think it is effective for at least five years, it is not yet known if you will need a “booster” shot in the future to strengthen your immunity.
Good luck!
