Can getting an STD interfere with a menstrual cycle?

by Rachel on May 10, 2011

I have always had a “normal” period.. ever since I first started. But recently my period has been very very VERY light.. and it lasts for about 2 weeks with some days having no bleeding at all. I have had unprotected sex recently.. Im scared that maybe and STD is causing this change.. I am planning on getting tested, but until then I am wondering if maybe an STD can affect my menstrual?

Without a medical exam there is no way to determine what, if any, STD you may have contracted. That’s why we have doctors. Get yourself checked.

Some STD’s may affect your menstrual cycle but usualy do not.

There are so many other reasons that a woman’s cycle can become irregular -
Hormone problems, stress, diet, changes in your daily schedule, losing or gaining weight – too many to mention – ovarian cysts.
No one on Y!A can really diagnose you properly.
It would be best to see you gynecologist if the problems don’t resolve themselves soon.
