Can my boyfriend and I have sex if we both have genital warts?

by Rachel on September 1, 2011

I didn’t know I had it when we were first together and he ate me out and they showed up a week later, my boyfriend got them 2 weeks ago, so I gave it to him.

Can we have sex cause we’re planning on having sex for the first time Saterday night and I wanna make sure its safe. Its genital warts type 6 and 11 but will I get cervical cancer or anything ?
I’m just worried.

Use condoms, and it doesn’t matter. If you’re the one that gave them to him, you’re already infected. Your chances of cancer do not go up by having sex with someone who has the same virus you already have.

It is most certainly not safe.

You both need to go see a doctor to get tested and to make sure they are genital warts and what strain. Genital warts don’t normally show up that quickly, and you don’t know if he got them from you or from who else. HPV can be dormant, so he could have gotten them from anyone.

As for the cervical cancer, you need to get a pap test and talk to a gynecologist about your risks.

So see a doctor. Both of you. Don’t have sex until then.

Genital warts 6 and 11 are the ones associated with cervical cancer. If you have it, then a Pap/HPV smear has already shown that you have this strain, because there is no other test for genital warts but the one performed during the Pap smear.

Your doctor will already be watching for abnormal cells on your cervix and will take appropriate action should they begin to show abnormalities. All you could do is potentially cause more warts to occur.
