Can you get an STD from somone when the disease is dormant?

Can you get an STD from someone you have sex with that show no visible signs of the disease? Or is the disease only spread when visible outbreaks occur? Looking for factual evidence.
ok knowing that can someone get tested and actually have it but the test comes up negative?

I’m so reminded of Valtrex commercials…Over 70% of people with genital herpes got it from their partner when they had no signs or symptoms of an outbreak.

Sexual Health: Genital Herpes
Genital herpes is a highly contagious infection usually spread through intercourse with a person with infected sores, but it can be passed through oral or anal sex as well. It may also be spread even when sores are not visible.

this web site has good info.
good luck

YES! You can get an STD even if the person shows no symptoms and never has. MOST people who have STDs, especially men, NEVER have symptoms and do NOT know they have them. In particular, 90% of people with herpes do NOT know they have it.

I got herpes from my husband who had never had any symptoms, and a lot of people who have it got it for the same reason.

Most people with HPV never have symptoms and do not know they have it, and men can’t even test for it.
Gonorrhea, Syphilis, Trichomoniasis and Chlamydia are the same way- most people, particularly men don’t realize they have it.

On the CDC government website for each of the above STDs, it specifically says that MOST men do not have or recognize symptoms. Many women will not recognize symptoms. That is why STDs keep spreading. Some people know they have them and purposely spread them, but MOST people are completely unaware they have anything until one of their partners has symptoms and they find out they passed it on.

There are often no visible signs with any of the main STDs and you can get them even if there are no obvious signs.

yes! both HSV and HPV are/can be transmited when there are little to no physical signs. As far as other infections (bacterial, viral, protozoan), people may not be aware that they are infected with something as the symptoms maybe very miniual.
