Can you get an STD or Disease from sitting on a urinated on toilet seat?

by Rachel on June 11, 2011

I recently took a trip and had to use a public restroom…Only when I sat down and began to get up did I realize the last person had urinated all over the toilet seat. Ew. :( I know. But my question is there any possibility I can get an STD or disease from that? If so, how would I know?

It could have been some left over cleaning solution. If it was urine then gross… but there would be little to no risk of getting an std from a toilet seat. The most you could get is crabs if the toilet was very dirty. Most stds die with in seconds of being away from the body. There would have to be some one with an std between you and the toilet seat and you would have to be having unprotected sex on it in order for you to get an std from a toilet seat.
Most of the time you wouldn’t know you had an std, they take a while to show symptoms. If you do experience any thing unusual down stairs then see your doctor and have them test you for stds.

As gross as that is, to my understanding there are no known reports of STD’s received from using public restrooms. Don’t take my word 100% on this though, get checked out anyway =P

No u cannot get an STD from sittin on a urinated toilet, STD’s are sexual transmitted diseases only contracted durin sexual intercourse ie; rough kissin n havin sex etc….
Havin a disease can be possible but not from the urine but from bacteria on the toilet that can get into open parts on the body (cuts or bruises).. u can get a check up at the hospital for any sicknesses but if u check up right away the infection maybe developin n cant be seen….
Most likely there no disease.

Hope I Helped!!!

Yes, definitely. It all depends with whom you were sitting on the toilet seat.

Yes, you can get something from a toilet seat. Always, try not to sit on one, squat over it if you really have to go.

you can’t get an std but the lesson is to NEVER sit on a public toilet. why on earth would you? aside from the nasty factor even if the seat weren’t wet there’s sometimes dried urine, fecal matter. now you have that on you and who knows how soon you would be able to bathe. now germs can live on things, just watch that old 20/20 episode when they swab subway cars, public banisters, etc. staph germs can live for i’m not sure how long and can lead to infection or sickness if you don’t regularly wash hands and instead rub your eyes, put hands in mouth, etc. not to put fear in you but you have to use common sense and basic hygienic practice.

NO. The only way to contract and STD is by sexual intercourse, oral, or contact with an infected person’s blood. The skin acts as a barrier to keep foreign materials and bacteria out. If it was porous then everyone who has ever sat on a wet toilet seat would have an STD.
