Can You Get Hpv If Both People In The Relationship Were Virgins And Never Had Any Sort Of Sexual Contact Befor?

by Rachel on January 29, 2010

My boyfriend and I have been together for three years and we are each others first real gf/bf.. neither of us had ever tried oral or anything with other people and we were both virgins when we started dating. A few of my friends were diagnosed with hpv so is it possible for me to get it? even though we’ve only been with each other?

Yes and no. HPV is transmitted through skin-to-skin contact, so technically, heavy rubbing could transmit HPV as well. However, it is less likely. I haven’t heard of any cases where it was transmitted through kissing.
Unfortunately, there is no FDA approved test for men to test for HPV, and women can only get tested if they request it as part of their annual pap smear. 1 in 2 adults have HPV, and 1 in 4 teenaged women at least one STD (most commonly HPV).
I know you feel like being only with one another makes you safe, but I would suggest that you go ahead and get the Gardisil vaccination anyway. My first 4 boyfriends were virgins (as far as I knew) who had never even been to second base with a girl before, and I still ended up with HPV and Herpes.
Hope that helps! Feel free to email me if you have questions.
