Cervical cancer
Cervical cancer is a malignant tumor in the neck of the uterus or cervix in its vicinity. Symptoms are often not visible until the cancer has progressed very far, although some cases present with vaginal bleeding or discharge smelly. The absence of clear symptoms of women aged 25-49 for a smear every three years are invited.
Diagnosis
The smear involves taking a sample of cervical cells, which are then tested for abnormalities. If abnormalities are detected, it is not necessarily indicative of cancer. If an abnormal Pap smear is taken, the person will then go to a gynecologist for a colposcopy, which includes an internal review of the vagina. This can sometimes involve a biopsy, which is taken in which a sample of tissue to examine under a microscope.
HPV
Cancer is a change in the DNA replication while the cells and growth is not regulated. The reasons are widespread and include human papillomavirus (HPV), smoking, number of children and much more. HPV is the most common cause of cancer of the cervix over 99% of cases associated with infection. HPV can lie dormant in the mucous membranes of the body and eventually lead to cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, which is a stage before the cancer. HPV does not always cause cancer, but there is a significant risk factor. HPV spreads through sexual intercourse with multiple partners, and whether women are more at risk.
Vaccine against HPV
Since September 2008, it is a recent step of girls aged 12-13 against two strains of HPV that are suspected to be involved this vaccine can cause cancer. It consists of three injections over a period of six months given routinely in schools.
There was some controversy about the new program. As with any vaccine, there are possible side effects. Most of them are very mild and flu-like symptoms, mild swelling or belong. However, there is also very unlikely that the vaccine could be a severe allergic reaction that causes anaphylactic shock. In particular, for this vaccine, it is feared that a vaccine could be a virus that is transmitted sexually, sexual promiscuity and promote apathy against sexually transmitted diseases. Some argue that the cost of the vaccine can not be justified, if the infection through safe sex practices could be avoided.
A young girl died suddenly after having recently received the vaccination in a school in Coventry. So far there was no link between vaccination and confirmed her death, but vaccination programs have been removed until the conclusion can be determined. Since the beginning of the program 1 8 million girls have been vaccinated and no deaths reported. Other girls received the vaccine in the same school as side effects, but not admitted to the hospital needed. This has recently raised the debate about the vaccine and whether it should really be given to all.
