A panel of senior experts discuss research against cancer. “Sir Paul Nurse (Rockefeller University President), Harold Varmus (President, Cancer Center Memorial Sloan-Kettering), Nathan David (President Emeritus, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute), Deb Schrag (Cancer Center Memorial Sloan-Kettering), and Martin Abeloff (Director, The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins). The panel will discuss advances in early detection and screenings, and other prevention methods such as the vaccine against HPV, the changes in the accuracy diagnosis and treatment of cancer, such as targeted therapies. “It’s something in my head a little surreal about the debate. The experts are very positive people knowledgeable and courteous. They talk about the importance of prevention, such as smoking is responsible for thirty percent of cancer deaths worldwide. They talk about the epidemic of lung cancer who come from Asia because of smoking are more. They accuse tobacco companies, the so-active advertising of their product. You talk about the situation in the poorest regions of the world where people die from preventable cancers in the absence of appropriate medical care. They report on progress in the results “with cancer in all, including breast and colon cancer. They discuss some of the most innovative treatments in recent years and prospects for the future. They indicate that cancer is not one disease but hundreds. And they speak of a course, the battle in progress.
