Did you know that most of us have genital warts?

Seriously, I learned that in my human sexuality course. Three in four people have the virus. Men don’t normally grow the warts, so they just keep passing it around. I also learned that the new widely believed theory is that the virus goes away after about 18 months – it doesn’t stay dormant in your body and ready to flare up again forever. However, some still say that it sticks around. Either way, ladies, this is why we need to all have regular paps. Genital Warts can lead to PID and cervical cancer. And if you’re not a virgin- most of us have had them, even if we don’t know it.

Not true. Most women do not have genital warts. Most sexually active women have been exposed to one or more of the many strains of HPV, only one strain of which causes warts. Still, regular exams are important as certain strains increase a woman’s risk for cervical cancer. HPV viruses are so small, they pass through condoms, so your not even protected against it during “protected” sex.
