Do Girls HAVE to get the HPV Vaccination?

by Rachel on April 13, 2011

What does it prevent?

I’ve just recieved a letter from the school saying that HPV vaccinations are available for the girls in Y8 (my year)

Should I do it? Is it painful?

YYYEEEESSSS!!! You’d be a fool not to! It’s a series of either 6 or 8 shots a few weeks apart. It is a great vaccine! It hurts no more than a regular shot, so don’t be a wuss and do something for yourself and for the benefit of those you love and just get the shot!

Don’t do it, you don’t need it. I didn’t get it last year when they asked me to either. It’s for cervical cancer, which you won’t get if you don’t smoke or have unprotected sex, so in reality, you really do not need it and yes it would be painful. You’d have about three jabs, a few weeks a part.
And there is risk, you can die from getting it done if you have hidden medical problems, even asthma puts you at risk. Jade Goodie also died from it.
Please don’t get it.

No, you don’t have to get it. No one can “force” you to, I mean. Vaccines inject the “dead” virus into your body, so you can create antibodies against that strain of the virus. The antibodies will fight off the virus strains you are vaccinated against for a certain number of years (until the vaccine wears off, if it ever does).

HPV is a sexually transmitted virus, so if you don’t have sex, you won’t need it. Although, It might be good to get it just in case you are attacked or something.

It helps to prevent HPV (human papillomavirus virus – the genital kind). I’m in grade 10 now, but when I was in grade 9 I got the shot. No, it wasn’t painful for me. It was not much different than a regular shot. You should ask and find more information about it. Some of my friends did not get it because there parents did not want them to and what not. It is your parents and your choice. I got it in a series of 3 shots over a couple of months. Of least that is how they did it in my area. If you are going to get it then it’s best to get it while you are young! It did not come out when I was at the ‘prime age.’ Oh well. I was about 14, and I’m abstinent towards sex and all that stuff – it’s best and prime if you are a virgin and you get this shot, so that if you do/when you potentially become sexually active, your covered. You can learn more about it and the infection and this one website, for example:

I hope I helped :)
