Do you think that members of Congress should have to use the products that they approve for public release?

Should they have to eat genetically modified foods on a daily basis, eat non-organic fruits and veggies and regular milk and beef, get the vaccinations (adjusted to a higher dosage for their weight and which still have mercury in them as most still do today) that they missed out on (since kids today have to take 14+ –more than double of what Americans used to take and more than any other country today), drink fluoridated tap water–not bottled water–daily (governors and state officials who voted for it in their state would be made to drink it too), consume imported milk products from China that might have amounts of melamine that can lead to death and kidney and liver failure (which is the majority of the food supply today), get more vaccines for the flu and the human papilloma virus, take regular plane trips in the airport not on private jets (so they can be scanned and looked at naked and have their personal belongings confiscated), etc.

Do you think they would start caring about public safety, health, privacy, and other issues that they irresponsibly voted for if they were made to suffer the consequences of their actions?
Then members of Congress shouldn’t have a problem with eating them exclusively.

There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with GM foods. They have been tested ad nauseam by people who share your luddite fears, and even they can’t find anything wrong with them. As far as organic foods are concerned, I prefer my foods grown with the help of modern fertilizers and pesticides. What can I say? I’ve read too many examples of people contracting diseases from “organic” foods fertilized with excrement. Monsanto seems a monumental inprovement over something that came out of a cow’s butt.

EDIT: Why should they have to eat them exclusively any more than you do? Members of Congress should be free to eat, not eat, purchase, or not purchase any legal item they choose to.

Fine by me. Ron Paul would be safe since he votes against federal meddling in food approvals anyhow……not sure you’d like that better. (but where I live, California, would be a lot stricter than the feds if they were allowedto be, just like we are with automobile emissions.)

I think this is a “whatever suits you” situation. I won’t eat meats with hormones or other additives. I don’t eat processed foods or foods with preservatives. This is my choice. It is what my body prefers. I’m not thrilled with the idea of genetically modified foods, etc. I do think there should be more vigilance and responsibility. But I feel I am responsible for I what I buy and put into my body. I am tired of them trying to harm us. If they don’t Sonic sure will.

Definitely, it would force them to be more careful about what they force people to consume. I suspect that some are being paid off to allow harmful products to be brought on the market. An example of capitalist greed.
