Does the military vaccinate against HPV in boot camp?

by Rachel on May 9, 2011

I was in the military from 2005-2009. I can’t remember all of the shots I got, but were we vaccinated for HPV?

I would say more than likely…………..I know that the local base was trying very hard to get me to sign for my daughter to get that shot…………….as well as encouraging other mums to do the same.

Does it not say in your medical records ???

EDIT : the local base wants all females to have this shot from the age of 7 to the age of 35…………still would not dream of letting my child have it as it has way too many unanswered questions about it.

If I had to venture a guess, I would say no, you weren’t.

If you are a guy, there is no male vaccination for HPV yet.

If you are female, the optimal time for girls to receive the HPV vaccine is 11-13. By the time woman is old enough to serve in the military, 17+. she is out of the target range and there is some debate as to whether or not females should get it.

Gardasil did not become widely available until June of 2008 so if you went through boot camp in 2005, it is very doubtful you received it. Also, you have to get the the vaccination in an increment of 3. Did you ever go to the medic/hospital whatever 3 times. Did they take a sexual health assessment?

If not, then I would say you didn’t get it.

If you are under 26, you might still want to talk to your doctor about getting it. Some protection is better than none although to be honest, at 26, you probably already have it regardless of your gender.

probably not, it was available in 2007 but most hadnt started getting it yet, due to questions about the vaccine..its not a required vaccine anywhere so its really doubtful that you got it

actually it was available in 2006..but again most hadnt gotten it, i know in 2007 we didnt get it for my daughter because there were too many unanswered questions about it.
