Gluten Intolerance Symptoms

Gluten intolerance is often referred to as Celiac disease (or Coeliac disease). It is estimated that in the United States alone, 1 in 133 people suffer from Celiac disease and that number may be on the rise because a lot more people have not yet been diagnosed.

Celiac disease is caused by the bodies reaction to a gluten protein usually found in wheat. That protein is known as gliadin and it can affect all types of people of any gender, age or race and can become an issue at any time during ones life. Scientists have discovered however, that gluten intolerance appears to be more prevalent among people of Northern European descent. There are a number of symptoms to look out for if you or a loved one suffers from the disease.

Symptoms of Celiac Disease Can Include:

Bone Pain
Weight Loss
Mild Weakness
Abdominal Bloating
Nutritional Deficiencies
Overall poor health

Because it is becoming more prevalent in our society, it is important to understand that there are certain foods that should be avoided. If consumed, those foods will cause a ‘flair up’ in symptoms that are usually the cause for pain and discomfort. That is why it is extremely important to read labels before buying certain foods or look for foods that are labeled ‘Gluten Free’.
