How do I get my man to get an STD test?

by Rachel on November 6, 2010

My man hasn’t been to the doc in over 10 years. I’m concerned for his health- he’s 32 and has been with many women, some who probably weren’t the cleanest- how do I get him to go get an STD test without offending him? Thanks for your suggestions and rude people get a life.

He likely assumes that since you haven’t turned up with anything, he doesn’t have anything either. You can offer to go have testing done at the same time, and that might help. You could refuse to get up close and personal as well, though I think that might be counterproductive and suggest that you don’t trust him. Your best approach may be simply to lay it out like you did hear, and offer to go have testing done with him. Then nobody has reason to feel like they are on the spot, and he’s more likely to be agreeable. Then again, men traditionally put off seeing a doctor as long as they possibly can. They think if it isn’t obviously broken, or at least can be fixed with duct tape, then they don’t need help. Sometimes it just takes a scare to hit close to home, to get them motivated to go. If you think that might help, mention that now would be a good time for a regular physical anyway. If he’s got a family history of heart problems or diabetes, those tests may just help him avoid the family curse and an early grave. It’s your call what method to use, since you know him best.

It is your life so if he gets offended then he ain’t the one hone. Don’t give him any until both of you go get tested and pass it. If he doesn’t care enough about you to do it he is not worth doing it with. He won’t treat you as you deserve. You deserve to know you are not going to get a STD from him.

Just tell him , that you care about your health as well as his and you want him to get tested and to make him feel better do it together and let him know it’s something you do in all your relationships and it’s a acquirement and a MUST.And if he still denies it then it’s not much you can do but use protection or leave or not give him any.
