How long can any std live on a sharp object?

by Rachel on April 21, 2011

This is really weird but this kid on my bus was carrying this sharp wire and stabbing this other kid with it. He said that earlier he stabbed a kid in the neck and he made him bleed. Eventually he dropped it and I took it and hid it so he would stop. When I got off I threw it down the sewer. I might have just rubbed my eyes with my hands just cause I have allergies (before I washed my hands). Is it possible to get any kind of STD?

Few, if any, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) require actual sexual intercourse for transmission. For example, studies have found that oral sex can transmit HIV (the virus that causes AIDS), hepatitis B virus, herpes, genital warts, syphilis and gonorrhea. Other acts, such as petting, could possibly transmit some of these infections as well. Contact with infected body fluids (particularly blood, semen and vaginal secretions) is necessary for spreading HIV and hepatitis B. Therefore, touching and petting (without ejaculation) would not be likely to pass these viruses from person to person. However, the same is not true for genital warts or herpes. Only contact with the lesion is needed to spread these infections.
