Genital warts are caused by the virus HPV, which is spread via skin-to-skin contact (so condoms are not protective, and you can get them even if you don’t have sex). HPV infection of the genitals presents as one or more skin-colored, raised bumps. They can be around the opening of the vagina, around the anus, on the labia, and even within the vagina.

75-90% of sexually active individuals age 15-25 have/ have had the virus, but many are asymptomatic. There are other strains of HPV that can lead to cervical cancer (Types 16, 18, 31, 33, and 45), but these strains are different from the types that cause genital warts (types 6 and 11). Currently, there is a vaccine available to prevent both types that cause genital warts, and two of the types that can cause cervical cancer (Gardisil).

Treatment includes topical creams, or in-office procedures for removal (freezing, lasers, burning with acid). These treatments don’t always work….

In some people who are infected, they have only one outbreak, and then the immune system is able to clear the body of the virus (about 50% of women infected). The other 50% will continue to have outbreaks every so often for the rest of their lives, and the virus lives latent when there is not an active outbreak. They can still pass the virus to others during these latent periods.

Talking about all of that with pics should last 2 minutes. Hope I helped :) Good luck!
