Gardasil covers 4 types of the 40 types of HPV that affect the genitals. Even if you have one of the types the vaccine helps protect you from, you can still get protection from the other 3.

If you have had a PAP smear and it has come back normal, then you do not have HPV. Get the shot and be protected.

Yes, you can still get the vaccine…you may have acquired an HPV type. Many people acquire an HPV soon after becoming sexually active.Gardasil can’t prevent an HPV type you may have already been exposed to

Even if you have acquired an HPV type you probably have not acquired all 4 that Gardasil prevents. You will probably receive some benefit.

A Pap test looks for abnormal cell changes of the cervix. You can have an HPV type even with a normal Pap test. The HPV test confirms you have a high risk HPV type. The HPV test does not test for all HPV types. Some times it takes years for abnormal cells to develop. Routine Pap testing is still very important even after receiving the vaccine.

I wish you well.
