Is it possible to get an std without sexual contact?

by Rachel on July 22, 2011

Ok before you say that its a stupid question, my doctor thinks i have an std even though i insist im a virgin, the farthest ive gone is kissing. oh and i dont do drugs either.

So is there any rare possible chance that i could have an std?
the farthest ive gone is kissing so nothing else no oral, anal, sex, anything KISSING!

and she thinks i have a chancroid. cause i had a painful blister like thing so painful, and now its starting to come back.

What STD does your doctor think you have?

Some STDs can rarely be contracted without having sex..HPV is highly contagious

and what do you mean by virgin? You can get STDs through ANY sexual contact..even oral sex.

If all you have done is kiss then it is highly unlikely – although you can pick up a really common Herpes strain via kissing. It causes cold sores and it is not to difficult to spread it too your genitals via touching. If you have had skin to skin contact with a partner where your genitals have come into contact then Hepres, Scabies and genital warts can be spread without actual penetration. There would then also be the possibilty of other stds being transferred via any bodily fluids from you or your partneres bits.
Again though, it is incredibly unlikely you have an std if you have done nothing more than kiss. What std did the Doctor think you have? If he said thrush or bacterial vaginosis then neither are stds but can cause similar symptoms and are both incredibly common in women.
People can have chlamydia and gonorrhea at the back of their throats but this would have to involve oral sex being previously performed. Ive yet to hear of it being transferred via kissing alone but i guess it would not be beyond the realms of possibility.
If you have an std clinic near you then maybe consider going along – even just for a chat. If you have no symptoms then you can usually do a test yourself but im sure they would be willing to take a look at anything you are worried about.
I hope things sort themselves out for you.

You can get oral herpes (AKA cold sores) just from sharing drinks with each another person. So yeah you probably can have an STD.

I would trust your doctor on this one, he’s the expert dealing with your case, not you, me, or anyone else on the Yahoo Answers network.

You can STD from birth. If one of your parents have HIV or herpes, then you can get it.

You may have a bad ingrown hair down there. I actually had a bad ingrown hair and my doctor also thought I was a wild one and didn’t use protection. Unless your sharing dirty towels I wouldn’t be worried.
