Is there a medication out there to reduce the spread of genital warts?

by Rachel on August 13, 2011

I have genital warts. I have a boyfriend and notified him of this. We have not had sex yet, but would like to. But we would like to know: Are there any medications/medicines I can take to reduce the spread of genital warts to him besides using a condom?

No. The medication helps with break outs not preventing the spread.

I know that Samoxal is a good treatment for genital warts and helps to remove them.

What ever treatment you decide to go with, remember to wait until the treatment is working before you have sex with your boyfriend.

Genital warts are contagious and they are spread during sexual activity. The virus that causes genital warts is the human papillomavirus.

Genital warts can spread during oral, vaginal or anal sex with an infected partner. About two thirds of people who have sexual contact with a partner who has genital warts will develop warts, usually within three months of contact.

The only way to prevent genital warts from spreading is to avoid direct contact with the virus, which is transmitted by skin to skin contact. I suggest you not to have sex.

There are a lot of different treatments for genital warts that are available for the genital warts infection. It is possible to get some cream to put on it such as the Wartrol genital wart creams or if the infection is very sever you may be able to opt for surgery to have them removed. Most of the cream treatments are applied directly to the affected area. The most common way of surgically removing the genital warts is through freezing them with liquid nitrogen but it is also possible to have to done by surgical excision or laser treatment.
