Great book. Very realistic view of sexuality and sexually transmitted diseases. Provided education to young adults in a way they truly understand and it will help prevent them from making serious mistakes.

Being a Health Educator on a college campus, “Seductive Delusions” is a fresh look at safer sex education. The stories are short and easy to relate to everyday life. I appreciate the facts section after each disease along with sources for additional information. I will be recommending this book to all my peer health educators. Aimee Jansssen-Robinson M.Ed., CHES

As a health educator on a university campus, I am always looking for new ways to reach students regarding their personal health behaviors. Certainly, therefore, the idea of STD education through short stories caught my attention. Reading the book cover to cover, I found the stories ran together a bit in my mind, but taken individually, they are powerful conveyers of the truth that STDs can happen to anyone. I think the book would be a great aid for a personal health class where students could work individually or in groups on each chapter and present the “case studies” to their peers. I understand that the author will be adding discussion questions to her website that would aid an instructor using this book in such a format.

Dr. Grimes’ straightforward information answers your questions about STDs and debunks myths you may have heard about how one can or can’t get a sexually transmitted infection. The vignettes vividly portray situations that are all too common in everyday life and then explain the potential consequences of our actions.

I am glad to have a great book to recommend to anyone, particularly those of college or high school age (or their parents). Although the subject matter is sobering, it is a wake-up call about STDs for adults, adolescents, parents and even medical professionals, especially since most people don’t realize they, their loved ones or their patients may already be at risk. This book can broaden your knowledge, help you choose safer practices and prevent potentially serious illnesses.

As a sex educator, it is rare to find books that are interesting to read but also contain accurate, non-judgmental information about STDs. Seductive Delusions acheives these goals, reinforcing that STDs can be cured or managed and relationships enjoyed. The only thing missing (although addressed in the forward) is the inclusion of lesbian, gay and bisexual case scenarios.
