Were you tested for HPV and were you positive or negative?

I am wondering if as many docs are testing for this as they say AND if as many women as they say are really positive….

Curious.

I was during each pregnancy to make sure it was safe for vaginal birth. I was clean but I ended up having c-sections anyway :(

That was one of the things I was tested for early in pregnancy and I tested Negative just like all the other std tests I received in the beginning of my pregnancy.

I tested positive for HPV at my pap 5 months before I found out I was pregnant. There are so many diff strains of it that they don’t know much, they did a colposcopy a couple weeks after that and it showed I was fine.

Then when I went for my 12 prenatal visit they tested me again because it had been less than a year that I had a positive result and the test came back negative. The say certain strains just go away on their own, my sister-in-law had a positive HPV test result 10 years ago and its been negative everytime since then.

I found most people dont’ talk about it so I didn’t realise how common it was. Once I asked people I knew about it I found out nearly everybody I knew had a positive test result at some point in their life but it went away.

I have never been tested specifically for HPV – even during pregnancy.

When doctors do a Pap Smear at any time (pregnant or not), they test for abnormal cells as well as manually/visually check for genital warts (a symptoms of SOME strains of HPV).

Even when I had a severly abnormal Pap severally years ago, they did not investigate to find out WHY (such as testing for HPV). They did a colonoscopy that found that they MUST take a portion of my cervix through a LEEP procedure.

Some doctors state that cervical cancer is due to a variety of factors including genetics, proper diet and lifestyle choices (as with any cancer). Some doctors feel that ALL cervical cancer MUST be a virus (HPV) and therefore simply assume that a Pap Smear IS a test for HPV if there are abnormal cells present.

Western medicine is very strange – it’s not even consistent. And food and drug lobbyists set the ‘requirements and recommendations’ for agencies and associations that inform doctors and consumers.
