Some argue that it will make girls more comfortable with being sexually active, making them think they don’t have to worry. I really don’t have that concern. My concern is the fact that the vaccine is so new. There is no knowledge of any possible long-term side effects or how long it is effective for. Also, it contains ingredients such as polysorbate 80, a known carcinogen. And, like all vaccines, it is not tested for carcinogenic or teratogenic properties, or effects on fertility.

The argument would be that they’re going to place themselves in more situations to be sexually active, or that they’re going to not use condoms (the only way to reduce the risk of many STD’s, including HPV) when they do have sex.
Getting the HPV vaccine is a really good idea, but girls should still insist that their partners use a condom to protect against other STD’s.

I think the shot is a good idea and have had all three injections already. When my mother told me that I would be getting them, I saw and had no problem with it. But I think my parents are thinking of it as a shot that gives their daughters permission to have sex. Since they are protected against the virus, they must think that they can become sexually active.

The shot is a very good idea. Not only does it protect from STD’s but it helps protect you from cervical cancers. If you have a gynecologist I would ask them about it.
