What Will Happen If You Have Sex With Hpv?

by Rachel on February 26, 2010

And you and your partner already have unprotected sex? My doctor is saying that I have abnormal cells, is it ok to keep having unprotected sex with my boyfriend? Even after treatment? And is it true that once you both have that strain you cant get it again? Will having sex after treatment cause abnormal cells to form again even if I’m having sex with the same guy who has the same strain as me?

You have a lot of good questions here.
And it needs a lot of information to answer well.
HPV can cause abnormal changes in your cervical cells.
Your body can turn these cells back to normal by itself.
Your body can also fight off HPV and rid itself of the virus.
But if you keep reinfecting yourself with HPV then your body will not have enough time to either turn the abnormal cells back into normal cells and get rid of the HPV which is causing all the problems in the first place.
Reinfection with the same type of HPV is unlikely. However, there are not currently any studies that have examined the effects of reinfection or the effects of treatment on infectivity. Partners likely share the same strain of HPV though, and exposure to the same HPV strain(s) does not appear to cause a person to experience more symptoms. The important thing is for you to continue to have Pap smears done at the recommended intervals, particularly after they have had an abnormal Pap test.
Both the URLs below give a lot more good information and express it better than I can.

He should be checked to see if he has it. If he doesn’t you should protect him or wait ’till it clears up on you. If he does, you will just keep passing it back and forth., like a regular cold.
Really, HPV is like a sexual commom cold. It usually will clear up on its own. The risk is really to you, however. It could lead to more serious conditions if it doen’t clear up.Some strains can cause cancer.
PS why are you and your partner having unprotected sex?
