Would you give cpr to someone with std sores on their mouth?

by Rachel on April 3, 2011

Say you are a lifegaurd, you save someone from drowning but you have to give them cpr or they’ll die.
The only problem is, they have contagious std sores on their mouth and if you give them cpr you will get it too. What would you do?

You clearly don’t know what an STD is.
Sexually Transmitted.
Kissing is not sex.

Edit: Time to educate the kids here.
Herpes you *can* catch through kissing, but not the STD version, which is HSV 2. You can get HSV 1 through kissing… which is just an occasional cold sore on the mouth (usually a period of a few weeks to a month with occasional outbreaks, then none for years or ever). Something like 60-80% of adults in the United States have HSV 1… you probably have it already and just don’t know. Likewise, it’s not an STD. HSV 2 is the STD form, and that you CAN NOT catch through kissing.

Lifeguard kits sometimes include things that block direct mouth-to-mouth

person above: you can get oral STDs

eeew, that’s actually a really good question…i’d probably grab one of my fellow lifeguards to give them CPR, and just pretend i didn’t see the hideous sores. soo, i’d basically sacrifice my fellow worker xx

Isn’t there those mouth to mouth cover up thingy? I’m sure they have those in the first aid kits. The answer would be though that yes I would if they have a mouth to mouth cover up thingy.
